Bichon Frise First Hair Cut!

ItscoldouthereRoscoe, our bichon frise. went out last night to the airport and ran around by the fire getting all black and dirty.  Here’s a pic of him with a friend warming up before it was time to play again.

Because of his rough housing the night before, Roscoe really needed a good brushing the next day! He was being a little brat and yelping every time I tried to brush him to the point that I honestly thought the brush was hurting him or something.  Saying that, he boldly ran around the house carrying it in his mouth so if it was hurting him when I brushed him, I doubt he would play with the brush.  Just to make sure though, I took him over to Dena’s house (our pet groomer) to get a lesson on “how to brush bichons”.  Figure I might as well start him young getting used to being groomed as he has a whole lifetime ahead of him of this ritual being the showy type of dogs bichons are.

ImnotdoingnothingwrongI was greeted at Dena’s home by two of the sweetest bichons I’ve ever seen (well besides Roscoe). They were all purdy and looking hot in their well groomed coats.  Dena took control of Roscoe right of the bat and had him brushed, trimmed and nails cut in no time.  He’s a little whiney yelper but she taught me how to be more dominant with him and not let him run the show like he wants to.

I learned to brush him deep with comb to look for tats and when found, brush them out with the short wire brush until they are gone.  You need to pull back the hair so you see their skin and get the tats close there too or they will just get bigger over time.  Also, I didn’t realize this but you can brush any direction on a bichon. She also told me to get a narrower collar and only wear it on him when walking or out on the town as overtime the collar will mark up his beautiful coat which bichons are famous for.

We are home now and I thought he’d be totally wiped out from it all and sleep all afternoon but by the look in his eye, I doubt it 😉  Isn’t Roscoe cute??  How can one NOT love him?

Just another day in the life of Roscoe.

New Puppy – Family Adjustment (and Not Just For Roscoe!)

getitRoscoe has definitely adjusted to his new home although not sure we have adjusted to him yet. Anyone who knows me knows I love my sleep and I am not an early riser. Well, I am an early riser now!!! Roscoe has his mum up at 6:30 every morning now. I am doing my best to kennel train him so want to keep consistency with a routine even if it kills me (and it is LOL!). But one look at his cute little smirk and it is all seems worth it for the moment.

I put a stuffed animal in his kennel last night but it still didn’t help him as he cried himself to sleep. He gets so much stimulation all day from Connor and everyone visiting us to see meet him that he doesn’t know what to do at bedtime all by himself. But just like my 3 kids found out, he will have to learn that mum knows he is safe and fine and that he is just crying for attention so I’m not playing his game and he can cry 😉

Success! All night he slept till 6:30am with no accidents too!

igotastickRoscoe is a little mad today as his brother (who he has wrapped around his little paw) is gone to his dads for a few days so he has to stay housed up with me in my office. But he is finding lots of trouble to get into, trust me. He’s turning out to be a very curious puppy (aren’t they all?) My office is just off the laundry room and he keeps running in there and bringing out laundry to chew. Right now he has Connor’s favourite boxer shorts HA! Too bad so sad Connor, you will have to learn not to leave your dirty laundry laying around! At least it’s keeping Roscoe occupied for a few chewing on them so that works for me as I get a bit of office work done today.

On a positive note, I work too much at my desk and will go for hours without getting up from my chair. Roscoe has cured me of that and I’m jumping up every half hour or so for something surrounding him 😉 I bet I lose some weight and my neck sorts out now not sitting on my butt all day without exercising.

Ok I should feed him, it’s almost 8am. I have him on 1/2 cup X 2 Royal Canin for Shitzu dogs that Kim suggested and he seems to gobble that up.DSC02746

Puppy’s First Trip Home

Today we headed up on the 7:45am ferry to Nanaimo to meet Kimm and her Kimmlets. After visiting with LBP (Little Boy Puppy) a 15 week old male bichon we decided we couldn’t live without him and brought him home. He slept the whole ride home on the ferry. We then popped over to King George Aviation Airpark to give him a pee break and then headed to our first visit to the pet store. We came out of there just under $100 with food, collar, leash, jerky, 3 tiny tennis balls, a squeaky toy and a tug of war toy my son picked out.

When we got home, Connor decided his name was going to be Roscoe (from Sheriff_Rosco_P._Coltrane on Dukes of Hazzard, a favourite show of my boys for many years).

All decked out in his army style collar that we picked out to make him look more boyish, Roscoe has settled in quickly this aft already eating a full bowl of food and playing with his new toys. He is a hoot of fun and I’m sure he will keep us all on our toes in the years to come. He’s like another brother to Connor and I think they’ll be getting into trouble here very soon with all the romping and laughing I hear going on in the background….must go check! I’ll post pics soon and will keep you all up to date of the new puppy names Roscoe 🙂

My birthday’s tomorrow and Roscoe was a surprising present!

Here’s pictures of the day:
